Dr. Amber Johnson
Dr. Amber Johnson grew up in Truckee, California. She was infatuated with horses at a very young age, as most horse-crazy girls are, but could not have imagined where this infatuation might lead. Her dreams came true when she began taking riding lessons from her neighbor at the age of six-years-old, and she has never looked back.
Dr. Johnson completed her undergraduate studies at UC Santa Barbara. Unable to stray far from her equine passion, she earned money working as a trail guide in Squaw Valley, California during summer breaks. Following undergrad, Dr. Johnson began her career in the Equine Veterinary field as a technician for a small family-run practice in Northern California. However, her decision to pursue a career as an Equine Veterinarian was solidified while working as head of heard health alongside their resident, on-site veterinarian, for a large 150(+/-) Cutting Horse breeding farm in the North Central Valley of California, the Atwood Ranch.
After earning her Veterinary Degree at UC Davis in 2014, Dr. Johnson moved to Ocala, Florida where she completed a 1-Year Internship at a large equine referral hospital. There, she gained intensive, hands-on training and mentor-ship in all areas of equine veterinary medicine. Though much of her exposure had been to more traditional western medicine and modalities, Dr. Johnson has ALWAYS had an interest in alternative therapies. Because of this, she took advantage of her opportunity living in Ocala to attend the Chi Institute where she received her acupuncture training and became a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist.
Following her internship, Dr. Johnson returned home to California to work as an ambulatory veterinarian for Artaurus Equine, a small private practice in the North Bay Area. In this position, she practiced general medicine, honing her skills in all aspects of equine veterinary care, however she most especially enjoyed seeing the benefits her patients received from their acupuncture sessions which fueled her passion for expanding her knowledge and skill-set in other similar modalities. This passion drove Dr. Johnson to pursue certification in Veterinary Medical Manipulation (EVMM, more commonly known as chiropractic) through the Integrative Veterinary Medical Institute in Florida.
Dr. Johnson is continually expanding her skill set and knowledge base in this exciting area of veterinary medicine and is passionate about using various modalities including Acupuncture and Kinesiology taping, to help achieve the horse’s maximum performance and optimum health.
She has recently moved to Newcastle, California and is excited to get to know both the human and equine members of this beautiful community! In her free time, she enjoys riding her horses and spending time with her dogs and family.
